Pakistan Flood Response

Areas of Pakistan have been fighting relentless and exceptionally heavy rainfall, triggering widespread flash floods, landslides, and river overflows.

The floods have claimed hundreds of lives, injured over a thousand people, and displaced millions, creating a severe humanitarian crisis, declared in official reports from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Over 900 deaths have been recorded, with more than 1,000 people have been injured and millions have been displaced, with over 2 million evacuated in Punjab alone due to rising river levels.

Thousands of homes have been either damaged or completely destroyed, forcing families to live in makeshift shelters, relief camps, or with host communities. With many risking dangerous situations, too afraid to leave their homes at risk of thefts. Essential aid for basic supplies is needed to support those in need.

We have been carefully assessing the situation with our dedicated team on the ground, to ensure we support the best way we can.

This week, we were able to reach over 1,600 people with life-saving aid. The climate is getting worse daily, and the need for support is immense.

With their houses taken by the floodwaters, families are now living in temporary shelters. Our immediate and targeted response is to provide daily hot meals to these shelters. £3 to provide someone in these shelters with a warm meal. This is more than just food, but a source of warmth and a moment of comfort in an unthinkable situation.

With little or no access to basic supplies, a food parcel for £50, will support a family for a month.

Damage to water structures mean clean drinking water is in short supply. We are providing a water containers for £10, which will help families stockpile, until the situation becomes safer.

We need your help to reach as many people as possible for as long as they need us.

An Update for all our Pakistan Hand Pump and Solar Well Donors:

In areas near rivers in Punjab, Pakistan — including Rajanpur and Liaquatpur (Rahim Yar Khan) — the hand pumps installed by Greengate Trust are located within households where the ground level is higher than the surrounding streets. These houses are also at a safe distance from floodwaters.

Most of the villages where Greengate Trust has installed hand pumps have remained safe during recent flooding. Additionally, the elevated positioning of homes has helped keep the hand pumps out of the flood’s reach.

In the rare case that any hand pumps are affected, our team is already on the ground and ready to respond. Repairs will be carried out promptly upon request by the beneficiaries. We are confident in the durability and proper installation of these hand pumps.

We will continue to monitor the situation and respond as necessary.
